i keep a tumblr page, but i don’t necessarily shout it from the rooftops. it’s more of my own space for inspiration and for what i might want to share with you here at a future date. i kinda love it, and i especially love it when i look at my archives and see a certain continuity to the images i record there. like this goddess from how to be a retronaut and rock that horse print. there’s no method to my madness, but that’s okay with me. it just makes me happy. oh yeah, i’ll tumblr for ya. and this time it’s bold!
one very awesome bedroom from adore magazine; turquoise fleece flounce throw from anthropologie; martin o’neil’s amazing print pacific 234; anthropologie’s celadon green cotswold sofa; gorgeous carrie strine lattice quilt; Anguilla Toothpick Holder from leif; wallcandy’s raspberry sorbet wallpaper from 2modern; love these framed pages torn from a book by riazzoli; and a bold bedroom, and bri’s amazing beside table lamp from rue magazine.
artist michael gillette sent me a link to his new james bond prints available at eclectric works in san francisco, (below) and it got me thinking about a mod world — mid-century, brit-pop mod. i love the glamorous lines and bold colors of the 1960′s, so i thought i’d round up some fun mod vintage-inspired finds. yeah, baby.
i’m feeling very hot pink today. i couldn’t live with a whole lot of it, mind you, but i really love a nice pop of now and then. i like the look of an all white room with an bold pink accent, or maybe one wall papered with a pink pattern. some like it hot, indeed they do.
Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi’s big pink egg chair looks great juxtaposed with such a traditional, formal-looking room, photographed by Dylan Thomas for British Vogue.
oh, the first impression of an entry way! beautiful door? check. very cool orange stairs? check. art… well, that’s where i come in:
this amazing entry way was photographed by bruno suet, and the moment i saw it, i knew i wanted to hang some art. normally, i give lots of different size options, but i think this space calls for a really big*, bold piece. you know, something that really ‘pops’:
get it? soda pop. ok, you get it – moving on. so, there is an * here. these fantastic screenprints, by london’s ‘the design conspiracy’, are only 25″x19″ – but i think it might be worth a call to see if they’d do a huge commissioned piece! hello giant lemon soda!
and now for something completely different {but still orange}:
oh la la! french painter stephane dauthuille is a master of skirts and legs – and i want those feminine orange stockings hanging in this industrial entry way!
and finally, for my last big piece of artwork in this fabulous space:
yes! lots of knots by american artist terrence payne. his work is absolutely stunning in person – he draws {or, “colors”, as he would say} on huge pieces of paper, with bright pastels. he recently designed a wallpaper with hygee & west, which i absolutely love. would his wallpaper and his drawing be too much in this space? i say, no way – bring on the knots!
ah, there. i feel better. big art successfully hung. see you in two weeks with more! ~ danielle {aka the jealous curator}
the new bohemians, they’re not one bit afraid to go bold, and be beautiful. just have a look. crazy colors combined with bold patterns and texture to add contrast and visual stimulation everywhere you turn. perhaps add a bit of bling — such as the globe lamp above or a colorfully exotic rug, and bam! you’ve got an eclectic, very bohemian look i love!

the new issue of canadian house and home magazine is out, and online via zinio and this month’s issue shares some bold color stories. these are a few of my favorite images from the pages of house and home, and their website offers up a video of some of this issue’s neon DIY ideas right here. easy to do ideas with just a bit of paint, including some neon striped pillows, a boldly painted radiator and hot pink electrical cords. and, if you can’t find this issue on your newsstands, you can view all kinds of international magazines via online subscriptions on zinio.
yesterday, i was all about green. today i’m stuck on pink. i’m so fickle, right? well, it’s a woman’s prerogative to be both fickle and have a strong affinity for all things pink. hey, for that matter, guys too. everyone loves a feminine touch of pastel pink, don’t we? this month’s living etc. magazine (above and below) had a lovely dose of pink throughout its pages, which is what i think got me started crushing. here’s a peek at some of those pages, and some gems i’ve been saving up.
you gotta love it when a homeowner is brave enough to make some bold color choices. i used to be much more apt to paint a room a bright color and if i didn’t like it i’d just paint it another color. a friend used to joke that my bathroom was getting smaller because each time i’d add a coat of paint, the room would shrink just a little bit more. true story — i think that room went from white to lavender to yellow to pale gray to white again. but i digress — and even if i’m really into black and white walls these days, i can truly admire someone with the guts to go forth with one bold color after another. take this top room and the next two — they’re all from the same beautiful house. now, that my friends, are some brave and brazen decorators. but i think it’s fantastic, and tip my hat to those with a bold stroke of the paint brush. let’s look at a few more.
it was so warm this weekend in l.a. that it felt a lot like spring was already here. spring always makes me think of bright colors, like yellow. yellow harkens back to my 1970’s preteen hell-yes-to-yellow years. i had faux bamboo ‘corner beds’ and a built-in wall unit desk — all quite yellow. when i think about yellow i instantly have flashbacks of that bedroom. yellow is cheerful, bold and positive, all great attributes to decorate around. i’m not sure i’m courageous enough to handle a color that formidable in every room in my house, but in small doses yellow really has that extra bit of get up and go!
i never get tired of a great inspiration board, and i find a lot of inspiration in other people’s boards. it’s like looking at someone’s bookcase — you get another glimpse into their soul. and as much as i love gathering online inspiration on instagram, tumblr or pinterest i still love a good old fashion collage of what i’m currently inspired by. i think i’ll work on one this weekend. for this week’s friday finds, i’m sharing some boards to get you started on making one of your own. happy friday, everyone! xo, victoria
love this very zen board via australia’s home life.
black lacquer design was created by interior designer Caitlin Murray with the belief that almost every room can benefit from a bit of black and a little lacquer. Several years of growing a career in the design industry with award-winning firms, including House of Honey and MASHstudios lead to launching and co-founding her first design company, Caitlin & Caitlin. C&C quickly became a celebrated studio across the editorial sphere with top design publications and bloggers alike. Thanks to praise from press and plenty of client love, Caitlin spent her two and a half years with the firm steadily working on an array of projects, ranging from remodels to new-builds in both residential and commercial applications. Working hands-on with each aspect of every project, she built an incredible crew of subcontractors, vendors and resources. Black Lacquer is the brainchild of all that experience –basically bursting with style savviness and practical project management skills. But ultimately, Caitlin thinks it’s all about having a fun and beautiful life. And that above all else, design should make you feel great. So if your space is craving a small cosmetic change or in need of a complete overhaul, check in with black lacquer. here’s a peek at just a couple of her beautiful projects, including a gorgeous kitchen and a beautifully bold living room space.
okay, so we’ve been on a bit of a botanical binge lately, but can you blame us? it’s the tail end of summer and we’re trying to milk all the leftover warm days for what they’re worth. we’re also having a moment for home grown, and seasonal menus — thus huntingdon, england’s botanic kitchen satisfies all our cravings. you’ll fit right into these dreamy interiors designed by kiwi & pom with our hand-picked wear this there for the week — a mod white frock ties down an outfit appropriate for a garden party. and this week’s read this there is current best seller, a man called ove.

this week’s friday finds are brought to you by my codeine-laced cough syrup. i’m sorry — i’m a little silly, but i’ve got a bad bout of bronchitis and have been blogging from bed for over a week now, and i finally got into the doctor and got a prescription to rid myself of coughing my brains out. anyway, i’m loopy and sleepy and today you get deliriously pink. a bit over the top, perhaps — but pretty, right? i hope to be back in better form by next week. have a restful weekend everyone. xo, victoria
love this very deliriously pink bedroom featured recently in vtwonen, especially that killer mirror (above + just below).
that’s some very crazy carpeting right there, but i love/hate it.
a sweet deer indeed. just because the world needs a little more sweetness right now.
lonny featured a fun post on some amazing neon for grownups.
i did a little round-up on lonny for great decor ideas under $100, including fine little day’s lovely vera poster.
this is a smashing window seat redeux from blogger skunk boy.
growing up in suburban los angeles mod-century modern house, i always dreamed of a two-story house. not so much for the second level, per se, but for the staircase itself. there’s something so romantic about a staircase, yes? how many movies have depicted a love scene location? plenty, i reckon. i have an outside staircase to my home, but it’s rustic wood and shouldn’t be painted. so i’ll just have to fantasize about these pretty steps. i’ve noticed a trend stepping it up a bit — jet black staircases, making them even a bit more dramatic. swoon worthy and scene-stealing for certain.
you don’t require a lot of art to make a bold decor statement. minimalism can actually speak volumes and draw your eye in immediately. so say perhaps you’re on a bit of a budget when it comes to adding artwork to finish off your look — you can do that by simply buying one really impactful piece, and grow your art collection from there. or, you can simply leave it as is. i have just one really large print hanging above my sofa and i love it. i do adore a gallery look, too, but i think these rooms make a statement, but very minimally and it works.
i’m back with another case of the blues, just for you. i can’t stop, won’t stop because i’ve clearly fallen back in love with blue. there was a while there where i thought of it only as a very traditional color, perhaps even preppy but after my visit to europe, i see it’s got all kinds of personalities — from super sophisticated navy to bright colbalt farmhouse french and an awful of fun in-between. whether you slather an entire wall in some dreamy shade of blue, or simply pull up a comfy indigo-colored chair, i think you’ll see blues get along quite well with an abundance of other colors, no matter what the hue of blue.
one of my favorite online resources for great design, bolig magazine recently featured the home of designer trine skoller, and it’s a beauty. colorful and a little bit whimsical, trine has mixed traditional favorites with vintage flea market finds creating a home that’s truly eclectic and reflects the personality of its owner and her family. cozy, art-filled nooks are everywhere, and the home feels charming, unpretentious and inviting — the kind of space you’d like to curl up with a good book and a glass of wine, or — host a big dinner party with all your best friends. it’s just that enviable and inspiring mix of personal hideaway and welcoming weekend home. for the full home tour, visit bolig magazine.
whether your jaunting to NYC for fashion week, or you live a stone’s throw away — out east has to be on your “eat list”. this spot is an instagrammer’s dreamland — millennial pink tufted booths, selfie-worthy wallpaper, all topped with brass fixings — i couldn’t have imagined a better setting. with a menu of seafood and specialty cocktails, this is a prime situation for that long overdue brunch with your girlfriends. hash out that boy talk in your best boiler suit (this apiece apart one is so good), and some of most eye-catching accessories on the internet. you’ll inevitably have a subway ride to and from, so why not plug in your ear buds and listen to Material Girl, Mystical World by ruby warrington on audible — a lady’s guide to living in the modern world, with a spiritual intellect.

i’ve shared all about blue before, but i just keep seeing more and more of it popping up in the design world and i’d definitely say it’s on trend. but blue’s a pretty traditional classic, too, so perhaps were’ just giving it a modern update. velvet is also definitely trending (in fashion, and in decor) and the blue jewel tones (think sapphires!) lend themselves well to the richness of the fabric and they pair well together — like the beautiful vintage velvet crapaud chair with fringe we picked up for the shop at a flea market in lyon. i love blue paired with pink (like the abstract piece below) and mustard yellow is dreamy, too. whether you add a bit of blue through artwork, a beautiful piece of furniture, or a bold accent wall of ceiling to floor paint, it’s going to look great, and whether on trend or not, i think blue has long lasting legs that aren’t going away anytime soon.
